阿仙奴本季連續第六年四大皆空，令球迷至球會高層都十分難堪。本季為兵工廠上陣32次的丹尼臣則表示，他不能再忍受碌碌無為的職業生涯。
丹尼臣接受《太陽報》採訪時表示：「本季是我職業生涯最差的一季，所以我感到失望，感到沮喪。我是一個贏家，我來阿仙奴是為了奪冠的，但我加盟五年來一無所獲。球員的職業生涯是很短暫的，我是時候要爭取一下榮譽了。」
雖然明言希望轉會，但丹尼臣否認這是自己一時衝動，他堅稱自己事實上考慮很久了。
「這不是突然的決定，事實上我八個月前已經下定決心，我無法再忍受每次都沮喪地回家。不過在這之前我並沒有說什麽話，因為我不想分裂球隊，我沒有造成任何大影響。」
