On August 19, 2010, the Russian news service Interfax-AVN published a story titled, “Chinese Satellites Inspect Each Other in Near-Earth Orbit”, which was picked up on August 22 by the Chinese State news agency Xinhua. The original article stated that China’s newly-launched SJ-12 satellite had conducted a series of maneuvers to rendezvous with SJ-06F, an older Chinese satellite launched in October 2008. The article quoted Igor Lissov, a well-respected Russian space observer, who based his analysis on public data provided by the U.S. military.
