出生於紐約貧民區的BM，是個猶太人，從小熱愛音樂，特別是爵士樂。在陸續嘗試過許多工作
，甚至進入大學、主修市場與銷售，都覺得格格不入之後，他轉入朱利亞音樂學院，學習他自
己最愛的音樂。因緣際會之下，他的才華獲得了百老匯音樂劇圈子的賞識，使得他在考慮之後
，毅然投身幕後編曲、作曲、以及表演的行業，經過幾番起起落落，逐漸跟唱片圈的人越來越
熟，甚至嘗試以「羽毛床」（Featherbed）合唱團的名義，推出了自己根據蕭邦作品得到靈感
譜寫而成的「Could It Be Magic」，沒想到全軍覆沒。
