1991年於挪威成軍的黑金屬樂團Emperor，想必是黑金屬迷們黑暗之旅裡，必備的團體！然而Emperor不管對黑金屬樂風歷史的發展，或是自身就是異教門徒對反教工作的進行，都具有相當大的影響！1994年第一張專輯"In The Nightside Eclipse"被喻為黑金屬史上極經典黑作的發行後，Emperor動靜之間的作為，皆影響著黑金屬世界的變化！
1997年Enslaved鼓手Trym的加入與新作"Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk"的發行，再度證明Emperor黑金王者的風範！在蟄伏兩年後，Emperor再度以咆嘯之勢，於1999年發行最新黑暗力作-"IX Equilibrium"！
極度低迷的氣壓！陰暗鬼異的氣氛！殘暴兇狠的氣勢！"Curse You All Men!"標準撕烈吉他極走的旋律性與刷扣，建築著層層厚實卻有如浪潮陣陣襲擊而來的音牆，鼓手Trym兇猛帶著快速變化的鼓技，填補著空缺的樂章，而鍵盤游走般的鍵音，輕巧地點綴著變化穚段的環結，更加淒厲黑腔的嘶叫，搭配著第一次加入正腔的呼喊，彷彿有如撒旦詛咒著人類死亡的開始！Emperor不愧是黑暗金屬界裡的帝王，在新作"IX Equilibrium"裡，除延續著出道以來，以殘暴陰霾樂流為綱，以交響飽滿氣勢為要，特有的黑金屬特彩外，更在新作裡更嘗試少許正腔的加入，如"An Elegy of Icaros"一曲，黑腔與正腔對鳴之間，凌架於狂暴撕亂的黑闇氣勢之上，彷彿有著生死間對話之現場感！
