(Business) Sony wins Australia Ban on PS3 Modchip

Sony has obtained a temporary ban that prevents Australian distributors selling hardware that allows users to hack the PlayStation 3 (PS3).

The PS3Jailbreak modchip lets gamers play pirated and homemade games on the console.
該禁令制止了三家澳洲供應商進行進口、批發和販售改機晶片–供應商分別是Mod Supplier、OzModChips 和 Quantronics。
The ban prevents three distributors in Australia--Mod Supplier, OzModChips and Quantronics--from importing, distributing or selling the modchip.

Sony now has until August 31 to makes its case for a permanent ban.
否則該晶片就可以在9月1日起正式販售。
If that fails, the chips could well go on sale as of September 1st.

The court order also allows Sony to test the devices, including "destructive analysis", to see how they work, and gives the electronics giant control of all of the modchips in the distributors' possession.

The Australian distributors could not be reached for comment on the proceedings, and Sony declined to comment.
