標榜著「自西元1939年以降，最棒的爵士樂品牌」的Blue Note Records，在這份3 CDs的套裝精選裡的曲目，打著「爵士樂的故事」名號，採取三個不同的角度，盡可能的把BN幾十年來的出版品做了整理。三個角度分別是「經典」、「當代」與「新新人類」，這等份的做法也確實把Blue Note Records近七十年來的音樂方向做了合邏輯的解釋，條理分明，非常適合入門樂迷。

「經典盤」〈Classic Notes〉指的當然是讓Blue Note Records之所以不朽的最重要歷史錄音，也就是來自五、六零年代的硬式咆勃爵士〈Hard Bop〉，數以千計經典專輯中的曲目。John Coltrane、Miles Davis、Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers、Cannonball Adderley與Chet Baker等爵士巨人們的作品當然是首選。

「當代盤」〈Contemporary Notes〉部分，則是將九零年代後演奏正統爵士的新一代樂手作品的整理。近幾年曾發行新專輯的樂手如Norah Jones、Wynton Marsalis、Anita Baker、Cassandra Wilson、Jacky Terrasson與Gonzalo Rubalcaba等人的作品皆有收錄。

「新新人類盤」〈Modern Notes - Other Notes〉部分，顧名思義，就是時下流行的Acid Jazz、Nu Jazz等將電音、嘻哈與爵士即興元素結合的作品。這部分在歐洲有質量皆精的發行。如Marc Moulin、Troublemakers、Erik Truffaz與Nicola Conte等，音樂讓人耳目一新。同時也包括了較具實驗性格的樂團Medeski，Martin & Wood、個人風格強烈的鋼琴手Jason Moran與清新脫俗的新人Amos Lee等人的作品。酸爵士老祖宗US3的經典錄音《Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)》也沒有放過。
