Disgaea 5 will be making its way to Japanese markets on March 26, 2015 on PlayStation 4, but those of you hoping to play the game on your PS Vita are out of luck. The developer has stated that it’s impossible to port the game to PS Vita.
The statement comes straight from Nippon Ichi president, Sohei Niikawa who says that PS Vita port would require a lot of scaling down because the whole development process has been done using the PS4 specifications.
We are developing the game with Playstation 4 specs, so to be honest, it’s impossible to port the game to the PlayStation Vita. Porting the game without erasing a lot of features and cutting down the amount of assets would be very difficult, and of course, we do not wish to do that.
I think there are people waiting for a “Return” version with all of the contents [and DLC] included, but I’m sorry, that will not happen this time.
「我認為還有人正在等包含了全部DLC的『Return』版本,但是我很遺憾這次將不會發生。」
It’s not that much of surprise though as previous games in the series that did make their way to handheld devices were on the same generation. For example Disgaea 1 and 2 were released on PS2 and PSP, whereas 3 and 4 were released on both PS3 and PS Vita, so in order to release a game with PS4 specs on an handheld, Sony would need a new device.
It will come as a disappointment to the fans of the series, but that’s just the way it is from now on.
